Kazuyo Sejima
Kazuyo Sejima is a Japanese architect and 2010 Pritzker Prize co-recipient. Best known for several projects that she had completed through her practice, SANAA - a partnership with Ryue Nishizawa - I wanted to develop a brand identity honoring Sejima’s individual practice and accomplishments as a leading female architect in the industry.

The logo is based on the Avenir typeface and further simplifies its organic yet geometric style.
The brand system aims to mimic the relationship Sejima creates between her clean, modernist drawings and the ethereal qualities of the built spaces. A variety of differently sized and shaped rectangles form a grid that informs text placement on the letterhead, as well as serves as a guide for how to fold the paper neatly to fit into its envelope. Inspired by Sejima’s use of materiality in her projects, the grid is spot gloss printed onto white paper making itself visible through light and movement.
The web design takes on a similar grid-like structure that users navigate left to right. Similarly, the ‘Work’ section aims to reveal the connection between Sejima’s modernist drawings and the breathtaking quality of her physical environments.
